Hiking the Ridge to the Horse Riding Man

The following day, Matthew, Brad, Sid and I decided to climb the grassy ridge that dominates the view from the front of Auntie Shirley’s house, which is called Greenhills (I guess we know where the house gets its name from). There’s a large horse with a man riding it depicted on the hillside that is made from some white gravel over a couple of hundred years. We decided that that was a good goal for our hike and after gaining a few hundred meters in height, we had a lovely view of the Weymouth bay. We worked our way across the ridge for about a kilometer and made it to a field where the horse should be.

It took us about 5 minutes to find it as it may be easy to see from 5 kilometers away but up close and personal, not so easy. Once we finally located it, Matthew and I walked a little lower down to check it out. At first Matt said we should go to the head of the rider and stand where the eyes would be and perhaps those driving on the highway on the other side of the valley would see it. Being a mischievous uncle, I couldn’t help but suggest afterwards that we head down the slope and try our best at posing as the horse’s penis. Being 13, of course Matt was game....here’s the pic, not sure if anyone on the highway could see us but it was still good for a laugh.

Following some “manwiches” back up on the ridge, we worked our way back down and had a brief session of chucking around a small football (I guess technically an “American football” in this country) in a field at the base of the ridge. The hike was about 5km with great views and good company.

After the hike, back at the house, a group of us took on the task of finishing off the orders of service for the wedding. Sid, the brother of the bride-to-be, just happens to be a graphic artist so he created the invitations, seating plan, orders of service and any other fancy documents required for the wedding...and boy did he do a good job. A few days prior, Sid and I spent a couple of hours outside spray gluing the inside portion of the pamphlet and today we would finish them off. It took us a little while to get an efficient system going and we were slightly under attack from flying ashes from the neighbour’s garden fire but we managed and the final product was beautiful. Task done, it was time to get ready for the stag night for Charles!
