The evening of April 1st (no foolin’) was the last of Charles’ stags and similarly Gemma was having a “hen night” at Greenhills (Shirley’s house). We were joined by Charles’ brother-in-law Steve for dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant called Michelangelo’s. The pizza was divine and all of us claimed it was the best we’d had in eons. The night was officially started once Charles spilt a glass of red wine in my direction and although some ended up on my pants, I was amazed that it simply brushed off of my new quick dry duds...wow, they’re Charles proof!
The man of the night:
Me and Charles' bro-in-law Steve:
After dinner we met up with a couple of other guys, one being another brother of Charles, Mike, for a game of pool and some darts at the Bridge Inn pub just a few blocks away from the restaurant. We played a pool game Killer where each guy got one shot to sink any ball and if you didn’t get it, you lost one of your initial 5 lives. Needless to say, the North Americans were usually all out pretty early on but it was still lots of fun. We kept trying to distract Charles when he was shooting by putting our hands on our heads with index fingers pointing up like moose antlers and bellowing out a strange stag in heat like sound (at least that’s how I interpreted it).
The stag:
Most of the group moved on to darts and I suggested we play “Half It”. The Brits were game and I think they really enjoyed it. We followed it up with an exciting game of team Tactics and that too was a new game to them. Playing darts is big in this country, much bigger in Canada, but most of the time they only play the lame game of 501. I’d love to see the pros play Tactics.
A super fun night was had by all...
