The Murals of Azemmour

December 21st, 2025

After checking out the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, I drove further south and stopped in the small city of Azemmour.  It had been raining while I was driving but thankfully it let up for the half an hour that I spent walking around in the city’s medina (it actually felt more like a town, even though it has a population of 40,000).

The walls of the medina in Azemmour.

I had read online that it was a cute spot and had a lovely beach that was popular with surfers and kitesurfers, but it definitely wasn’t a beach day.  What surprised me was the amount of amazing artwork inside the medina.  Almost every lane or alleyway was adorned with a beautiful mural.  Check them out…

This little boy in blue was playing hide and seek with some other kids.

I really liked this home's entrance.

In contrast to the lovely murals in Azemmour, I passed by this industrial area on the coast.

Look at all of the transmission towers.

The access road to my campspot for the next few days.

The "Camping Plage Mrizika" with the friendly host Abdullah.  There were some shenanigans with him directing me to park.  His French wasn't that good and I could not figure out what he wanted.  At first I pulled in like this into the small spot delineated by some stones.  But then I thought he wanted me to reverse in, so I turned around, but no, this is what he wanted.  I couldn't help but chuckle after almost 5 minutes of jockeying Octi around.

Hard to see in this pic, but it's a 30 foot dune sloping down to the beach where there is the colour change in the sand.

This was another camper's friendly dog.

It’s been 3 cities in 3 days with about 3 hours of driving each day.  Time for a day off!
