A rainy day at the Coupe Icare

Friday, September 17th

We awoke in a cloud today. It had rained most of the night and now was just misting down but needless to say, this isn’t the weather one hopes for at a free flying festival! After some late breakfast, Kes, Gans and I wandered around the trade show booths. There were tons of different vendors from paraglider and paramotor manufacturers, harnesses, tourist companies promoting various flying areas and all kinds of peripheral stuff. It only took us about an hour to wander around and unfortunately it doesn’t look like the weather’s going to change much today...but hopefully tomorrow will be better.

In the late afternoon, I journeyed into town in the valley to try and find some camping gas and must have went to 5-6 different places but no one had the right sized tank for me...oh no, not this again. Returning to camp, there were a few hot air balloons flying in the overcast and misty skies. Once it was dark, hundreds of Chinese lanterns were released into the sky and it was quite a site...especially when the odd one caught on fire and plummeted to the ground! Super cool.

We checked out some more films. Due to the inclement weather the place was packed. I enjoyed seeing a film called Himalaya Infinity which had a Bulgarian pilot, Veso, and a Brit, Scott, both of whom I met in Nepal 3 years ago and they were both there. I chatted with them after the show and it was nice to catch up. The rain continued on and off late into the night...come on weather gods, give us a break!
