Phase 1 - Europe - The Stats

So that concludes the European leg and I thought I’d list out a few stats/facts from the past summer...here they are:

Geography

Number of countries visited: 12
- England, France, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Slovenia, Spain

Number of borders crossed: 20

Number of borders crossed where I actually had to stop: 8


The Wheels

Number of kilometres travelled in Betty (my campervan): 15,000

Longest driving day: 17 hours – Innsbruck, Austria to Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina

Number of Betty breakdowns requiring a tow or mechanic: 5

Number of tows: 3

Amount of oil put in Betty: approximately 35 litres

Number of days waiting/fixing Betty: 16

Number of complete engines replaced: 1

Cost of fixing Betty: 2100 Euros


Paragliding

Number of flights: 48

Total flying time: 61 hours and 50 minutes!

Number of countries I paraglided in: 7
- France, Switzerland, Austria, Montenegro, Slovenia, Italy, England

Longest paragliding flight (time): Tie of 3 hours and 10 minutes – Laragne, France and Kobarid, Slovenia

Longest paragliding flight (distance): 55 kilometre circuit - Laragne, France

Shortest paragliding flight (time): 2 minutes - Weymouth, England

Most flights in one day: 3 – Monte Grappa, Italy

Longest flight time in one day: 5 hours 30 minutes – Monte Grappa, Italy


Miscellaneous

Number of campsites stayed at: lost count...

Best campsite: a toughie, as no one place rocked on all criteria but some honourable mentions to:
- Great staff and attitude: Camp Lazar, Kobarid, Slovenia
- Convenience to paragliding: Municipal Campground, St. Andre Les Alpes, France
- View: L’Ile des Barrats, Chamonix, France

Worst campsite: just south of Makarska, Croatia - packed in like sardines

Most expensive campsite: Geneva, Switzerland – 33 Euros for one night

Location of best pizza: Same place as campsite, Croatia

Worst meal: Fried rolled pancakes (heart attack specials) - Kotor, Montenegro

Worst restaurant service: France

Best beer serving: England

Number of cameras broken: 3



Spending the summer Wandergliding around Europe: Priceless
